“Life is a journey. We are not meant to stay the same as we came into this world. Just as when you were a child and had so many things to learn, this never stops for us. Keep growing. Keep learning. Keep becoming the person you were created to be. This could be your butterfly moment.” -Topaz
Sometimes we find ourselves living life on auto pilot, not even thinking about it, or challenging who we are and the way we do things. How many times have we heard others say that this is just the way someone is?
But is it really? Or is it just the way we have learned? We live only what we know. That doesn’t mean that is all there is out there. Sometimes there is more. Much more.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” ― Maya Angelou
Life is a journey. We are not meant to stay the same as we came into this world. Just as when you were a child and had so many things to learn, this never stops for us. There is always growth and change ahead for us if we want to live our best life.
This could be your butterfly moment.
The magic does not happen on auto pilot, or even worse, it does not happen when we let the way others treat us create the person who we become.
We may live our whole life like this, on auto pilot, not fully realizing our true desire, who we really wanted to be, or our potential for change. Many do.
There is a phenomenon which perpetuates this cycle and makes it even harder to live our best life. Water seeks its own level. And because of that, we do not attract the people who could show us a more beautiful way to live.
Which becomes an issue because…
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” ― Jim Rohn
We tend to spend time with people who are like us, and we become more and more like the people we are spending time with. We seem to be stuck with no way out. But are we?
Not if we do not want to be. God places light bearers in our path. He always does.
We do not always know something is missing or could be different until someone shows us another way, a more beautiful way to live. The bright lights. The light bearers.
It could even be that person on facebook that you know through a mutual friend, a facebook page, or an online forum or group. It could be your favorite blogger. Or it could be the person who is sitting next to you at work. While you do see a lot of craziness and meanness in people, you get a chance to see a small window into the lives of some pretty amazing people, too. This gives us a glimpse that we might not have normally had any other way, but seeds of change can be planted here. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it. It is pretty amazing. We get to choose every single day who we want to be. I learn from both groups. The mean and crazy people show me how awful the darkness really is, and the amazing people shine light into the dark places and show me what could be.
I am forever learning and growing on this wonderful journey of life. And I am so thankful for the people who God has put in my path who light the way…even if from afar. Sometimes they show us a way when we have lost our way… or did not even know there was a way.
Light bearers. God will let our paths cross with light bearers. He is not finished with you, and does not want to leave you where you are.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 ESV
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
The ultimate source of light is Jesus. And I am so thankful for the light bearers who shine light into our dark places and help light the way.
Here’s to the bright lights in the world. I am grateful for these beautiful souls who shine so brightly. The ones who shine light into the dark places and show us how to live a beautiful life. Those beautiful souls.
Always look for the bright lights. They are out there…lighting the way. Shine on.
So I beg you. When you see the light, let it deep into your soul. Let it change you. You will wonder how you lived any other way. It’s glorious in the light. This is what you have been seeking. This is what is missing. It CAN be different. And thank a light bearer today.
Surround yourself with bright lights. Be a bright light. Shine on.
This could be your butterfly moment.

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life
10 Ways to Be Contagious in an Epic Kind of Way
Thank you for this! I have lived much of my life fighting the darkness. I really needed this today, so thank you for being a light bearer and for inspiring me to thank the other light bearers in my life. I am so glad I found you, I love your site and look to it daily for inspiration. Thanks!
I cannot even tell you how much that meant to me, Lizzi. Thank you for saying that. I know sometimes we think what say doesn’t make a difference, but it does. YOU made a difference today. I’m so glad this touched something in you today. I wish I could just give you a big hug. One thing I have learned over the years is that we must be vigilant in our journey. While things will get easier and much better, we must stay the course by continually learning and growing. Old thoughts, ways, and habits will try to creep in if we don’t. I’m doing this challenge right now… Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life Challenge to help keep me going in the direction I want. Intentional living. Ridiculously intentional. Thanks so much again, Lizzi, for your kind words. xo
I meant every word! I’m glad that I could make a difference by sharing how I felt. I saw your challenge the other day, and just signed up for the emails so I could get the printout for it. Ridiculously Intentional, I love it! Thanks for the virtual hug!
That’s wonderful, Lizzi! I just started the challenge a few days ago. We’ll be ridiculously intentional together! Thanks again for your kind words.
I had to immediately read this post when I read your title. “This could be your butterfly moment” I don’t know how you came up with that, but it’s perfect. This is so near to my heart as well, so much so that I have tattoo those thoughts by means of symbols onto my body as a reminder to myself to be ever changing. Thank you for writing this.
Aren’t butterfly moments amazing, Jennifer! I’m so glad this spoke to you, too. We do not have to stay the same if we don’t want to…we can grow and shine and do anything we want. Our butterfly moment awaits.
This is absolutely beautiful and inspiring.
If anything, I want to be forever changing… to forever become more like Jesus. I long to be a light and to bask in the light of others.
You, dear Topaz, are a light. I love visiting you, and treasure the words you share. Your love is felt through all your interactions and I treasure you for that.
Thank you for being a light, an inspiration, and a dear friend.
Wishing you a blessed day.
xoxo
I agree with you 100%, Jennifer! I don’t think we are ever done growing and learning.
Oh, what a kind thing to say. I appreciate those kind words so much. Thank you for taking the time to say them. I absolutely love spreading inspiration and love. It’s contagious, and I love seeing others catch it!
You are such a wonderful and bright light. I am so happy we connected and become friends!
A very beautiful and inspiring post indeed. We all need more light in our lives, whether we know it or not, we just need to be open to accepting it!
Thank you, Ana Lynn. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And, yes, we need more light and need to be spreading more light, wherever we go.

Awww….that made me tear up, Michelle. The past few years have been difficult, and I have been through much, too. It just got too painful to remain a caterpillar. I believe this is your butterfly moment. It’s our time to fly.
