We Made a Memory

We made a memory.

My tribe and I…we made a memory. We made a memory just like in my dream.

The weather called for rain all weekend…a lot of rain, but it didn’t rain at all. We celebrated a birthday. We celebrated life. We celebrated us.

This was our backyard view…

I am so blessed to have the relationship I have with my sons. We have been through so much together. And we have made some beautiful memories together even in the midst of the storms. We are family. We are a tribe.

Oh, what a gift this trip was.  We played. We laughed. Oh, how we all needed this. And we created. We decided before we went on this trip that we wanted to create something special as a symbol of our bond. OK, OK, it was my idea, and these amazing souls (with 2nd degree black belts) so sweetly did this for me, for us. Even they know what we have. As they have gotten older and have seen other parents and families, they appreciate what the three of us have more than ever and realize just how special it is.  Our getaway was the perfect time and place to create this special symbol of our connection, our tribe.

We went with a tinier version of the sleek, unisex bracelet with a micro magnet clasp, and a special symbol for our tribe that is on the back side by the catch. I love, love, LOVE wearing it with my other bracelet. And I just love that we are all wearing it. Have I mentioned that I have the absolute coolest sons?

And now we have this beautiful symbol of us, our tribe, and we made a memory. A beautiful memory. My heart is happy.

And the rest of the trip went something like this…

We did some of this…

And a lot of this…IMG_1754

And we even squeezed in some of this …when we weren’t busy doing this ↑.

And I’m pretty sure we lived off of this…

We ate right off the pans. Because I’m cool like that on vacation.

I decided that we should live like this all the time.

We made a memory.  My tribe. My people.

  1. That bracelet looks so cool and I love that your sons are wearing it too. My mother in law used to say that they are a clan and I loved that concept much like I do the one of tribe. I’m so glad you had an amazing trip!

    • I LOVE that they wear it, too! We worked together on the design process, so everyone got input on the the color, size, clasp, etc. It actually looks great on guys, which makes it a perfect unisex bracelet or family tribe bracelet.

I believe it is so important to instill that sense of belonging and support for each other in the family. I did not have that with my family, except for one brother who was my hero. You have that in your family with your children, Ana Lynn. I still remember that from a story you told on your blog. They know who their home team is. That is EXACTLY what we need to give to our children.

  2. Hi Topaz! What a wonderful time away with your special boys. I love the bracelets, and it’s so cool that they do too. It looks like they are so dedicated to family and to you.

And they like to take photos just like you do too! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Your love and faith and dedication shines in them too. What a legacy.

Thank you for sharing your sons with us!

    • I just adore them for doing this with me. We’ve always been close and have done things like this together, but with them being grown and living various places, it has been a while since we’ve taken a trip together like this. We just really needed it, and we are trying to live more intentionally and not put off doing the things we want to do.

I love that I share interests with both of them. Photography is one that we all three share now. They have gone with me on photo shoots for years. The oldest has just started taking an interest in photography. The youngest has been into it for years. He is an amazing landscape photographer. They have many sides and interests, and I just adore that we share some of them. And, yes, they are dedicated to family. God blessed me with two amazing sons. My family. My tribe.

Thank you so much for being here, Ceil. It made my day to see your beautiful face and read your sweet words.

    • They are so amazing. I’m so proud of the men they have become. They are such wonderful and kind souls. Have a beautiful week, Lana!

  3. AW!!!! Bless those amazing kids of yours!!! What a perfect treasure to always wear- reflecting your tribe!! I love that you ate out of the pan! And did a lot of quality family time together…. ahh…. just PERFECT!!

    • I know, right??? I just love them to pieces, Chris. They are such a wonderful blessing. And we made such wonderful memories on the trip. Love my tribe!
